MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Mountain View Montessori is to provide a unique learning environment consistent with Dr. Maria Montessori's vision for up to 90 students in the kindergarten through 6th grade. The school will provide individualized education in a multiage classroom environment. Drawing on Dr. Montessori's theory and practice, the elementary program will provide the students with two crucial components: an environment that offers individualized intellectual stimulation and excitement for learning with a firm grounding in the academic concepts necessary to master individual and state competency tests.

The Montessori-trained students will be able to formulate questions, apply critical thinking skills and strategies to seek out answers, collaborate with peers, and maintain the innate curiosity that will drive future learning, and recognize that learning is an exciting and challenging adventure. They will develop the academic skills necessary to meet the challenges that face them as they pursue life-long learning opportunities.

HISTORY AND ORGANIZATION

Mountain View Montessori is a public elementary school located in Victorville, California. It was founded in 2000 by Mary Sypkens and Dr. Kristin Droege, who wished to provide a quality Montessori education to students in the High Desert. Both founders are professors of Child Development and parents of young children.

Our school is a dependent charter school supported by the far-sighted and enthusiastic Board of Trustees of Victor Elementary School District. Funding for the school comes from California's Charter School Block Grant.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Parents founded our school and parental participation is vital to your child's education experience. Attending parent education programs, volunteering, and participating in the Parent Alliance meetings and activities will greatly enhance your family's experience at Mountain View Montessori. Each family is required to perform 30 hours of volunteer service each year.

The Parent Alliance functions as a support to the Mountain View Montessori community by providing a forum for parent participation and education, planning school wide activities such as the Harvest Festival, and organizing a variety of fundraising activities to provide support to the school.

The participation of MVMCS parents in all aspects of the school is an important part of our community. Parent participation helps to build a bridge between home and school and is one of the leading factors in student success. Parent participation also helps to build a strong network of committed and concerned parents who support one another through their children's early years and into adolescence.
